Abstract
Abstract The optical cable (OC) has its optical fibres arranged in groups to form strands stacked together. The strand stacks (BS1...BSn) are combined in a regular pattern to form the cable core which is enclosed by an outer sheath. The strand stacks lie in successive layers, the number of stacks in each layer increasing regularly from the outer to the central layer so that the core has a stepped outer profile. Pref. each strand stack is square, enclosed by a respective protective sleeve. ADVANTAGE - Simple design for increased pack density, and protection against mechanical damages.
