Abstract
Abstract Shock waves are effective for the treatment of disorders by dispersion and emulsification, in particular, on diseased tissue, for example in re-emulsification of excessive lipids that have been deposited in arteriosclerosis. The vibration energy required can be directly supplied to the pathological focus with medical instruments such as catheters or cannulas. Suitable devices with focussing of shock waves are reported.
