Abstract
Abstract The tape recorder has fast forward and rewind facilities. Between recorded passages (4, 5) on the tape, identification signals (6, 7, 8) are recorded so that passages may be easily found during fast forward and rewind runs. The identification signal format is for a code (8) to be between satellite signals (6, 7). During fast forward and rewind the format is recognised when picked up by the record/replay head and fed to Schmitt trigger and flip-flop based circuitry. At record/replay speeds, the code signals are below the audio band and are transposed several octaves during fast forward and rewind operations.
