Abstract
Abstract The puncture of a permanent vein catheter is protected against infection by fitting a short flexible plastic sheath around the catheter hose. At the proximal end, this sheath is welded to the catheter hose. The sheath is made of a fold-resistant material such as silicone rubber. At the end facing the skin of a patient, the sheath is bonded to the skin by an adhesive. This protects a puncture against air, moisture and bacteria effectively even when applied for longer periods.
