Cavity scavenging device for cancer hyperthermia treatment - has inlet and outlet channels coupled to external scavenging liq. circuit contg. pump, thermostat and heater
Abstract
Abstract The hyperthermia cancer treatment is based on the increased temp. sensitivity of cancer cells as compared to normal tissue. Thus, an increased of eg. 44 deg.C applied over a period of two hours causes the decay of cancer cells, while being still bearable by normal cells. The cancer affected body cavities are scavenged by a device having a catheter with an inlet and outlet channel respectively. To the ends of the channels are connected the two ends of an external scavenging liq. circuit which includes a pump a heater and a control thermostat. Pref. the circuit contains a second thermostat of higher temp response, used for emergency switching and signal transmission. A container in the circuit contains the two thermostats and the heater. The latter, together with the pump, is mounted on the container lid to form a constructional module.
