Abstract

Abstract The system has a wideband cable network between an exchange and subscriber stations. The exchange can be operated by every subscriber of a public telephone system through its switching centres. The wideband cable network consists of light conductors, and its star structure is identical with the public telephone network. Light conductors (3) and metal wires (5) of the telephone network are combined by twisting a light conductor with an insulating layer with at least one further light conductor and/or with two insulated metal wires. A junction box (6) is used to lead signals out through an opto-electrical converter (7) for the optical signal and through a modem (11) for the electrical signal.
