Abstract

Abstract A long object, e.g. a tube is placed inside a close fitting sleeve. To firmly locate the sleeve on the tube, a heat source, in the form of a moving heater ring, is applied. Whilst the heater ring is moved along the tube and the sleeve, a tensile load is applied to the sleeve. This produces a shrink fit of the sleeve on the tube. A filler substance can be placed between the tube and sleeve so that the radial thickness of the insulation is increased. For the same purpose, several layers of insulation sleeve can be installed on the tube by repeating the procedure.
