Heart pacemaker electrode - has ball head of larger dia. than adjacent lead insulating sleeve
Abstract
Abstract The heart pacemaker electrode has a flexible lead enclosed in an insulating sleeve and particularly in spiral form, with a plain ball-shaped contact head at the end to be inserted in the heart. The insulating sleeve (3) extends as far as the head ball (5), and the external diameter of the latter is greater than that of the portion of the sleeve immediately adjacent to it. Typically the sleeve can taper towards the ball, and the portion immediately adjacent can be of ceramic, glass or synthetic resin. The ball can be secured to a stem of the head, whose diameter is less than that of the lead, and which can have at the end furthest from the ball a fixing cap in which the lead engages.
