Abstract
Abstract The vehicle transmission has monitors which measure the engine torque, or an associated parameter, and the engine speed. An electronic processing circuit computes the fuel consumption w.r.t. the particular gear which is set and alters the gear setting if a better fuel consumption can be achieved. The system provides an automatic control to set the gear ratio for maximum fuel economy over a wide range of dynamic conditions. It can be adjusted to cover diesel or petrol engines, where the best economy is achieved with a set band of engine speeds.
