Flexible light guide sliding tube system - is for transmission at high optical efficiency in endoscopy and has increased sliding characteristics

Abstract

Abstract The light guide is surrounded by a tube with good sliding characteristics of the inner and outer surfaces. The mechanical ruggedness of the light guide system, in particular, the possible action of stress and pressure, is increased by a suitable choice of the sliding tube which also improves the chemical resistance and thermal stability of the tube and light guide. The selection of a light absorbing sliding tube protects the endoscope and aperators against intensive diverging radiation. The combination of endoscope and suitable light guides permit the controlled transmission at high optical efficiency to change medically the structure of tissues.
