(3-Isopropylamino-2-hydroxypropoxy) pyridines - cardioselective beta-receptor stimulants
Abstract
Abstract Pyridine derivs. of formula (I), their salts and optical antipodes are new: Py.O.CH2.CH(OH).CH2.NH.CH(CH3)3 (I) (where Py = 2- or 3-pyridyl). (I) are cardioselective beta-receptor stimulants i.e., they increase myocardial contraction strength and cardiac frequency. The 3-pyridyl isomer differs from known stimulants such as isoproterenol in that it causes a redn. in arterial blood pressure only at doses much greater than that required for increasing contraction strength etc. The 2-pyridyl isomer also has beta-receptor blocking activity so may be used in treatment af arrythmia and angina pectoris. (I) also inters. for other pharmaceuticals. The daily oral dose for a 75 kg. mammal is 40-150 mg. (I) may be used in human or veterinary medicine.
