Nerve and muscle stimulator - gives stimulus currents varied with location and time from switching logic and relay chain
Abstract
Abstract Nerve and muscle stimulator, for spatially and time-variable stimuli, has a current generator and more than 2 electrode outputs, with relay contacts of a relay chain, in series or in parallel with the object to be stimulated, and a switching logic as a continuously-running ring counter, pref. as a diode matrix, to control the relay chain. Preferably, to stimulate the phrenic nerve, a low-frequency pulse generator simulates the respiratory cycle and controls both the ring counter and the amplitude of the stimulus current generator. There may be a number of current regulators for independent adjustment of the stimulus current, corresponding to the number of possible electrode combinations.
