Equalising ballast circuit for discharge lamps - provides protection against resonance effects in phase lines
Abstract
Abstract The ballast circuit having basic inductance and compensation capacitor are intended for use between phase lines where switching of such lines can lead to momentary unbalance and resonance and subsequent overloading of components and cause individual tubes (1) to extinguish. The compensation capacitor (5) is taken out of circuit by a relay across the ballast inductance when the individual tube current falls or when the ballast voltage decreases beyond an acceptable level. The circuit includes a primary transformer (71) whose secondary winding is in series with the lamp and the primary part of a shunt path across the tube. A further switchable shunt circuit may be included across the secondary (72).
