Waste waters contg. organic materials - wet-oxidised in presence of metals, their salts or oxides
Abstract
Abstract Organic material- contng. industrial or municipal waste water-treatment by oxidn. and decompsn. with a gaseous oxidising agent takes place by contacting the waste water with the gaseous oxidising agent in the presence of metal salts, metal oxides and/or fine mettalic particles of Cu, Zn, Ag, Mn and/or Ni, under a press., e.g. 5-100 atmos. over-press., which allows keeping up of a liquid phase in waste water at 150-300 (150-250) degrees c. Pref. catalyst metals are Cu or Zn, more pref. Cu complex salts esp. of (Cu(NH3)4)2+ ions. Catalyst concn. in waste waters may be 10-10000 (50-1000) ppm., calcd. as metals. Metal oxides and/or particles may be present in suspension. Uses include treating effluents from processes for prodn. of acrylonitrile Me methacrylate, phthalic anhydride, various synthetic resins, pentol and ethylene glycol.
