Screen mat with heat insulating layer and reflective foil - gives complete protection against detection by infrared radiation
Abstract
Abstract The screen mat comprises a heat-insulating layer covered on both sides with metal foils which have a high reflection coefficient for a wavelength range of 3-20 mu.m., pref. reaching max. reflection at wavelengths of 8-12 mu.m. The side facing the object may be provided with attachments of non-conductive material to maintain a layer of air between mat and object. Pref. the attachments are in the form of continuous ribs or strips defining closed channels through which cooling air may be blown. Pref. only the inner foil reflects wavelengths of 3-20 mu.m., while the outer foil has its max. reflection coefficient in the range of radar waves. The mat may be in the form of a closed tube which can be pulled over a gun barrel, or split into two halves which are placed around the gun barrel and connected to each other by rapid-release fasteners.
