PROCESS FOR MODIFYING CARBOXYMETHYL CELLULOSE
Abstract
Abstract Translated from German Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Modifizierung von Carboxymethylcellulose. The invention relates to a method for modifying carboxymethylcellulose. Thereafter, water-soluble carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) is transversely cross-linked with another polysaccharide or polysaccharide derivative at a level of these polymers of at least 5%, preferably 20 to 50%, by internal esterification between carboxyl and hydroxyl groups of the components in a non-aqueous medium. The aim of the invention is a process which avoids the incorporation of foreign crosslinker bridges and leads to preferably physiologically acceptable CMC products having modified properties, for example with modified swelling, loosening, viscosity, adhesion and cohesion behavior. For this purpose, CMC and crosslinking component in a non-aqueous medium consisting of a non-solvent, e.g. a lower alcohol or ketone, u. at least 40%, preferably 65 to 85% water, highly swollen to colloidal disperse at high concentration. Then, a defined part, preferably 20 to 50%, of the carboxyl groups in their Saeureform ueberfuehrt u. crosslinked at preferably 50 to 100 degrees Celsius. The method can be used to produce products that are exemplary. are useful as adhesives, binders, thickeners, processing aids in the chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food and other industries.
