Abstract
Abstract A coin (2) to be tested is accelerated along a running track (1) and bumps against a baffle plate (4), is thrown back there and is deflected as a result of gravity. Two light barriers (5, 6) serve for measuring the speed (V) of the coin (2) before it bumps. The baffle plate (4) transmits the impact pulse to a piezoelectric crystal (7) mounted between two shock absorbers (8, 9) and preloaded by a spring (14). The piezoelectric crystal (7) converts the impact pulse into a proportional voltage/time surface. A computer determines the mass of the coin and decides whether it is accepted. <IMAGE>
