Cash box with automatic coin counting unit - has photodetector monitoring number of coins in each pile
Abstract
Abstract The coin-box has an automatic counting unit for the inserted coins, which are arranged in a number of piles according to denomination. A photodetector is used to monitor the number of coins in each pile and can be moved along a slot (3) extending along the length of each pile, so that the light to the photodetector is blocked by the coins (4) in the pile. Each photodetector is connected to a respective counter, receiving a number of pulses equal to the number of coins in each pile. The count values are converted into a number representing the total value of the coins, supplied to a display. A plate has a series of holes in alignment with each coin pile, the hole spacing dependant on the coin thickness for each pile and is positioned between each photodetector, e.g. a photodiode and the corresponding coin pile, with a light source at the opposite side of the coin pile facing each of the holes.
