Abstract

Abstract A spatial diversity system for digital mobile tele-phone networks which comprises at least two antennas, one antenna being part of a primary (or master) unit and the other being part of a diversity (or slave) unit, each unit having processing means to detect the "quality" of digital audo signals received by their respective antennas, the "quality" comprising link quality, AGC level and parity errors; the primary unit being capable of comparing the "quality" of the audio signals received by each antenna, selecting the higher "quality" signal and transmitting the higher "quality" signal to the telephone network.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 90 words
A spatial diversity system for wireless telephone systems comprising a plurality of antenna units including a primary unit and at least one diversity unit, each having an antenna; each unit having means to determine the quality data comprising the link quality, AGC level and parity errors of an initial audio signal: means to compare the diversity unit quality data with the quality data of the primary unit; means to select the audio signal having the preferable quality data; and means to transmit the selected audio signal to the telephone system.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 90 words
A spatial diversity system for wireless telephone systems comprising a plurality of antenna units including a primary unit and at least one diversity unit, each having an antenna; each unit having means to determine the quality data comprising the link quality, AGC level and parity errors of an initial audio signal: means to compare the diversity unit quality data with the quality data of the primary unit; means to select the audio signal having the preferable quality data; and means to transmit the selected audio signal to the telephone system.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
The spatial diversity system of claim 1 wherein the initial audio signals are transmitted to said antenna units from their respective antennas.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 22 words
The spatial diversity system of claim 1 wherein the initial audio signals are transmitted from said antenna units to their respective antennas.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 34 words
The spatial diversity system of claim 1 wherein the antennas are receptive to compressed digital audio signals and wherein each unit has means to synthesize and expand the signals received from its respective antenna.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 38 words
The spatial diversity system of claim 1 wherein the antennas are receptive to compressed digital audio signals but only the primary unit has means to synthesize and expand the compressed signals and transmit them to the telephone system.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 13 words
The spatial diversity system of claim 1 applied to a telephone subscriber station.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 13 words
The spatial diversity system of claim 1 applied to a telephone base station.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 48 words
The spatial diversity system of claim 1 wherein the primary unit is in operative communication with a switch means, said primary unit utilizing the quality data to operate the switch means to form a path for the selected audio signal from the primary unit to the telephone system.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 28 words
The spatial diversity system of claim 8 wherein said selected audio signal is transmitted over said path to a multiplexer from which it passes into the telephone system.
