Abstract
Abstract FILTER APPARATUS HAVING SECONDARY GAS DISCHARGE SYSTEM ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A filter apparatus for removing particulates from a dirty gas stream having a secondary gas discharge system for drawing a predetermined portion of the dirty gas stream across the face of the filter panel provided in the apparatus to remove particulates from the face of the panel during reverse gas flushing operations and to promote a uniform flow of the gas stream through the filter media in the panels during filtering operations.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
223 words
A filter apparatus for removing particulates from a dirty gas stream, comprising: a housing; a gas impervious partition dividing the interior of the housing into a dirty gas chamber and a clean gas chamber, said partition having an aperture providing fluid communication between said chambers; dirty gas inlet means providing ingress for a dirty gas stream into the dirty gas chamber; clean gas outlet means providing egress for a clean gas stream from the clean gas chamber; a filter panel secured in flow-through relation across said aperture to provide a filter barrier between the dirty gas chamber and the clean gas chamber; pulsing means in the clean gas chamber for periodically inducing a reverse flow of gases from the clean gas chamber through the filter panel to reverse flush clean the filter panel; secondary gas discharge means opening into the dirty gas chamber along one edge of said filter panel adjacent the aperture in said partition; and said secondary gas discharge means being adapted to draw a predetermined portion of the dirty gas stream across the face of the filter panel and out of the dirty gas chamber to evacuate particulates dislodged from the face of the filter panel during reverse flush cleaning and to maintain a relatively uniform gas flow through the entire surface of the filter panel during gas filtering operations.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
48 words
The filter apparatus according to claim 1, and a filter supporting structure secured to said partition opening into the clean gas chamber through said aperture and having an open face opening into the dirty gas chamber; and - 7a -said filter panel being secured across said open face.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
21 words
The filter apparatus according to claim 2, and a plurality of said filter panels being adja-cently secured across said open face.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
54 words
The filter apparatus according to claim 1, and plate-like baffle means extending across the width of the filter panel in the dirty gas chamber to form a filter cleaning zone of a tapered cross-sectional configuration converging at said gas discharge means within the dirty gas chamber between said baffle means and the filter panel.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
56 words
The filter apparatus according to claim 1, and said filter panel being formed of a pleated sheet of filter media having a plurality of parallel pleats positioned to extend generally perpendicularly to the flow of that portion of the dirty gas stream being drawn across the face of the filter panel by the gas discharge means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
44 words
The filter apparatus according to claim 1, and said gas discharge means being adapted to draw in the range of 5-10 percent of the total volumetric flow of dirty gases entering the housing across the filter panel and out of the dirty gas chamber.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
41 words
The filter apparatus according to claim 1, and secondary gas cleaning means connected with said gas discharge means adapted to clean that portion of the dirty gas stream drawn through said gas discharge means prior to exhausting it into the atmosphere.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
36 words
The filter apparatus according to claim 1, and said gas discharge means being vented to the atmosphere to accommodate discharging that portion of the dirty gas stream drawn through said gas discharge means into the atmosphere.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
73 words
The filter apparatus according to claim 1, and said pulsing means including a first venturi nozzle communicating with said aperture; a second converging nozzle in spaced coaxial alignment with said first venturi; and high energy cleaning gas emitting means in spaced coaxial alignment with said second converging nozzle for periodically aspirating a flow of clean gases through said first venturi nozzle to cause a reverse flow of clean gases through the filter panel.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
