Abstract

Abstract TOPICAL GERMICIDAL COMPOSITION AND METHOD ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to novel topical germicid-al compositions especially useful as body, foot and axillary deodorant compositions and containing germicidal compounds having the general formula where R is an alkyl radical of from about 8 to 16 carbon atoms, X is an anion and n is an integer from 1 to 3. The compositions combine high antibacterial potency against odor causing bacteria with resistance to removal by perspiration.

Claim 2
Dependent Claim 55 words
A topical germicidal composition containing 0.2 to 5.0% by weight of a germicidal bis-quaternary ammonium compound having the general formula wherein R is an alkyl radical of from about 8 to about 16 carbon atoms, n is an integer from 1 to 3 and X is an anion, in combination with a dermatologically acceptable carrier.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
A topical germicidal composition as described in claim 1 wherein R is an alkyl radical of from 10 to 16 carbon atoms.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 18 words
A topical germicidal composition as described in claim 1 wherein n is an integer from 1 to 2.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 49 words
A topical germicidal composition as described in claim 1 in which said dermatologically acceptable carrier is selected from the class consisting of aqueous-alcoholic solutions, ointments, creams, lotions, dry powders, waxes and gels in stick form, and compositions packaged with a propellant for release in the form of an aerosol.
Claim 6
Independent Claim 79 words
A method for counteracting the development of body odors due to the decomposition of perspiration by micro-organisms present on the skin comprising the topical application of a composition containing 0.2 to 5.0% by weight of a germicidal bis-quaternary ammonium compound having the general formula wherein R is an alkyl radical of from about 8 to about 16 carbon atoms, n is an integer from 1 to 3 and X is an anion, in combination with a dermatologically acceptable carrier.
Claim 7
Independent Claim 79 words
A method for counteracting the development of body odors due to the decomposition of perspiration by micro-organisms present on the skin comprising the topical application of a composition containing 0.2 to 5.0% by weight of a germicidal bis-quaternary ammonium compound having the general formula wherein R is an alkyl radical of from about 8 to about 16 carbon atoms, n is an integer from 1 to 3 and X is an anion, in combination with a dermatologically acceptable carrier.
