Abstract ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Polymeric compositions comprise a polymer of a hydroxyl-containing vinylically unsaturated carboxylic ester, a volatilizable active ingredient such as a fragrance oil and a solubilizing agent which is compatible with the polymer and which is more compatible with the active ingredient than is the polymer, whereby the active ingredient is maintained at least partly in solution in the composition. The polymeric compositions permit controlled release of the volatilizable active ingredient into a medium in which they perform a useful function.

A clear transparent resin composition which comprises a synthetic hydroxyl-containing polymer of at least one vinylically-unsaturated carboxylic ester which has at least one hydroxy group having dissolved therein (A) a volatilizable active ingredient and (B) a solubilizing agent which is an organic cation or a non-ionic compound having both hydrophilic and lipophilic functions which is compatible with the polymer or soluble in any aqueous phase contained in the polymer composition and which is more compatible with the active ingredient or a component thereof than is the polymer.
