Les microparticules ont une taille moyenne dans la gamme de 0,1 à 125 mu et sont chacune sous forme d'une micromatrice d'un ingrédient actif distribué uniformément dans au moins un polymère non toxique. Les microparticules ont une libération prédéterminée de l'ingrédient actif lorsque le taux de dissolution en est mesuré selon la Paddle Method de l'US Pharmacopoeia XX à 37 degrés C et à 75 tr/mn.
