Abstract
Abstract The pocket device includes a microprocessor with a permanent memory having a 2K capacity and containing systems programs, and a central processing unit. A volatile memory in the microprocessor is linked to a 4k CMOS memory. A program is provided in the permanent memory which enables the unit to interrogate a user before a transaction in order to ensure that the user is authorised. - The microprocessor is also linked to a keypad for data entry, and display. A nickel cadmium battery supplying the unit may be charged from an external supply by an inductive coupler and data may be transmitted to a terminal via an ultrasonic coupling.
