Detection of hydrocarbon leakage from - below ground tanks
Abstract
Abstract Detection of leaks of hydrocarbon et. from containers and the prevention of soil pollution esp. of unnoticed leaks from underground or not easily accessible reservoirs either newly installed or after considerable service, by maintaining a specific amount of water in a container situated at least below the container, with means for controlling the water level between two pre-determined levels, all the components in the system being arranged so as to ensure free communication above ground between all the points on the plant of the water and the free flow of the leak on the outside wall of the container, and means for insuring that the appearance of a layer of material floating on the surface of the water can be detected and forms the criterion for operating an alarm and/or the signal arising from the detection of such an occurrence is used to start up and control apparatus which may have been provided to pump away the surface layer.
