Abstract Anti inflammatory alpha-indol-3-yl carboxylic acids and derivatives. M3A. are new compds. of formula:- (in which n is 1-4; n gps. R are chosen from H, halogen, haloalkyl, cyano, carboxy, alkoxy, hydroxy, amino, dialkylamino, alkyl, nitro, alkylamino, acylamino, mercapto, alkylmercapto, alkylsulphinyl, alkylsulphonyl, alkylaminoalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, carboalkoxy, aralkoxy and acyl; R1 and R2 are H or lower alkyl; Y is -CNR3-, -CO-CO-, -SO-, -O-, -NR3-, -NOR3-, -CO-O-, -CO-NR3-, and Z is an opt. subst. homo- or heterocyclic group of less than 3 fused rings; and the group-CO-M represents CO-OH or its salts, esters, anhydrides or amides. Pref. n is 1; R is in the 5-posn. and = OMe, F, NO2, Me; R1 is Me (H); R2 is Me; and Z is phenyl para-subst. by F, Cl, MeO or MeS; and M is OH, OMe, OtBu).
