Abstract Backrest, in particular for a vehicle seat, having a support unit which is preferably composed of at least two vertically extending longitudinal elements 1, 2 and a plurality of transverse elements 3 which are arranged horizontally and are connected to the latter, said support unit being curved in order to match the shape of the spinal column of a user, and at least one pulling element 6, 7, which is connected to an adjustment device 8 in order to adjust the curvature, acting on said insert, and side parts 11 which form a side supporting means are moveably attached to both lateral end regions of the support unit, preferably to the transverse elements 3 and are adjustable in their position with respect to the support unit by means of at least one activation device 13, 14, 15. <IMAGE>
